Fatiaki Expects Second Meat Shipment Soon

- LAISEANA NASIGA & WATI TALEBULA Feedback: wati.talebula@fijisun.com.fj

Importer and wholesaler Global Group Initiative (Fiji) is expecting its second shipment of meat from New Zealand next month. While the business had received its first container at the end of May, the meat importing business had first anticipated the arrival of their first container in April. However with the COVID-19 travel restrictions, the company now relies on the cargo and freight channel which remains partially open during this period

Director Joji Fatiaki first launched the business in June with their first container of chicken from New Zealand; he runs the business with his wife, Susan Taulaga.

Mr Fatiaki said the business started with his brother in-law who resided in New Zealand. “When my brother in-law in New Zealand shared to us that he was venturing out into doing his own business, he shared to us his business plans that he was going to export meat to Tuvalu but he just didn’t have anyone there to be his business partner.

“So we thought about the right timing and the right opportunity and we seized the opportunity. We did our planning last year and while the business in New Zealand is still registered under his name, my name is registered for the Fiji business,” he said.

While Mr Fatiaki hopes to finish the first container by the end of this month, there are plans to progressively diverse to other meat products such as lamb, beef or other by products such as sausages or luncheon.
