Police investigates alleged knife attack

Agroup of Solomon Islands medical students are concerned for their safety after an alleged knifing incident at their apartment along Mal Street in Suva.

The alleged incident happened on August 29 when an intruder allegedly entered the compound where 16 students from the Fiji National University (FNU) reside.

Student, Godwin Ramoi, said the alleged incident happened around midnight while the boys were having a few drinks inside the compound. Mr Ramoi said he was in his room watching a movie when he saw the tall figure of a man walked past his bedroom window.

“When I looked out, I noticed it was not one of our boys here, he was much taller,” he said.

“So I ran out and told the rest of the boys that there was an intruder in the compound and that was when one of the boys came out and chased after him down the driveway.”

Mr Ramoi claimed the intruder lived around the area.

He said the intruder allegedly grabbed a piece of timber and hit one the boy’s head on the left side and it left a big scar.

“I saw that the boys had stepped into the intruder’s compound as they were chasing him so I called all them back to the apartment, but as they were returning, I saw that the intruder went back in the house and pulled out a cane knife and chased the boys,” Mr Ramoi said.

“One of the boys tried to defend himself and got his wrist injured which landed him in the hospital for more than a week now.

“The boys managed to pin him down and removed the cane knife if not it would have been worse for the boys.”

The fourth year student from the province of Malaita in Solomon Islands lived in the area since 2017 and described the alleged incident as the first in the neighborhood.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed receiving the report of the alleged attack as investigations continue.
