MAKOI LAND SCAM WHO ENGLISH YOU?

-

Some members of the public who were duped into paying as much as $4000 in the Makoi land scam took one of the two persons involved to the Small Claims Tribunal.

The alleged mastermind committed suicide and his alleged accomplice is forced to face the music.

The matter was called yesterday and all matters deferred indefinitely until FICAC who are investigating the substantive matter finish their investigation.

As an ardent listener of music which can now be called classics, a BTL member is not happy with radio announcers on the English stations who are butchering names of bands. It goes to show that there was no prior knowledge of the bands or music.

Common mistakes are pronouncing INXS as ‘inks’, The correct pronunciation is “In Access.’ Another one is Pseudo Echo. English readers and speakers know pseudo is pronounced, but much to the amazement of this BTL member – the p in pseudo was not kept silent. Def Lepard, was pronounced as Def Lepaaaard. There have been many more.

FIRE LINE

Kudos to the NFA for starting their own emergency call centre. It will be manned 24/7 at three centres.

All calls will be registered. This is a step perhaps the Fiji Police Force can follow. If someone ever tried to dial 911 or 917, then you know.

Another thing of concern is that it seems none of the complaints done via phone are recorded either. The force may be trying its best, but public perception remains.
