World Suicide Prevention Day is observed on September 10 each year to promote worldwide action on preventing suicides. Many individuals on average scale commit suicide, for every person who completes a suicide, or more may attempt to end their lives. Suicide is a major preventable cause of premature death which is influenced by psycho-social, cultural and environmental risk factors that could be prevented through worldwide responses that address these main risk factors:

Decrease stigmatisation regarding suicide.

Depression of finical burden

Less attention in society or knowledge about suicide.

And can be used as prevention tool:

Launches of publications about suicide awareness and prevention.

Media programmes promoting suicide awareness and prevention.

Training courses about suicide and depression awareness.

Counseling.

Suicide prevention is an umbrella term for the collective efforts of local citizen organizations, mental health practitioners and related professionals.

Such efforts include preventive and proactive measures within the realms of medicine and mental health, as well as public health and other fields. In this pandemic most people are stressed up due to COVID-19 restrictions, because many people have lost their jobs and are locked up at home. Suicide prevention interventions fall into two broad categories: prevention targeted at the level of the individual and prevention stress or other family or targeted at the level of the population. The hope is to prevent such an act. Vinaka

Poverty Is a Mindset Lautoka

Joape Banuve,

It is about time we start talking about our financial problems with our families, friends, and most importantly our children who may become victims of this ever increasing issue. Either we sit and brag or take one step forward to working on measures to eradicate poverty.

The globe has been facing this issue since the days of ancient Babylon, even Jesus was born during the time of forced migration as a result of famine. Fiji is no excuse to this issue; we must know that it is inevitable. But, the real problem comes when individually; nothing has been worked on improving your potential to a state where you do not have to cut on costs such as going to the movies on weekends to save money.

Money was meant to be spent, maximise money making abilities or skills so that we do not have to worry about spending it (Bob Proctor).

People keep complaining, ‘Ohhh the financial crisis!, “Oh, we are going through a financial crisis, at least be a bit more flexible” and so on. If you are saying there is a financial crisis, where is UNICEF? There has never been a “SAVE THE FIJI ISLANDS CONCERT” for as long as I can remember. We will definitely know it is a financial crisis when you see airplanes flying over Lautoka city and tossing fish and chips out the window.

For sure it is going to be a financial crisis when the Tongans start opening up call centres here. Poverty is the result of our own thinking, get well soon.
