Suva close in on Rewa

The Suva football team are now one point behind Rewa on the Vodafone Premier League points table. This was after they beat Navua 4-1 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday. Rewa still top with 23 points while Suva are at 22. “The team is working very hard in terms of building up combinatio­ns with composure and good finishing,” said Suva coach Babs Khan..

“I believe we could have scored more goals but we managed to get the win.

“We have speedy strikers so we are utilising them well and we are working with them ahead of the Interdistr­ict Championsh­ip.”

What happened: Navua started the game strongly and kept Suva goalkeeper Beniamino Mateinaqar­a busy.

In the 40th minute from a free kick defender Remueru Tekiata drove in Suva’s first goal.

Halftime: Suva 1-0 Navua

Suva changed their formation to 4-4-2 in the second half bringing in twin strikers Christophe­r Wasasala and Sairusi Nalaubu.

In the 47th minute Nalaubu set-up Wasasala to score their second goal.

In the 50th minute, speedy Meli Codro caught the Navua defence napping and slammed in Suva’s third goal.

Navua’s Sharad Kumar scored a consolatio­n goal in the 60th minute to make it 3-1.

Then Codro struck again as he dribbled past four Navua players to score his second goal in the 82nd minute.
