A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR THE LAND AREAS OF THE SOUTHWEST PARTS OF VITI LEVU [SIGATOKA TO PACIFIC HARBOUR] AND VANUA LEVU [NABOUWALU], THE NORTHEAST PARTS OF VITI LEVU [RAKIRAKI], YASAWA AND MAMANUCA GROUP, TAVEUNI AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS, LAU AND LOMAIVITI GROUP, KADAVU AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS.

Situation: A high pressure system to the southwest of Fiji directs a fresh to strong southeast wind flow over the group. Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure with cloud and showers lies just to the north of the group. Associated cloud and showers affects the northern and eastern parts of the country.

Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji Group: For the southwest parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, Yasawa and Mamanuca group, the northeaste­rn parts of Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group, Taveuni and nearby smaller: Expect southeast winds with average speed of 50km/hr gusting upto 60km/hr. Winds gradually easing to moderate to fresh from tomorrow.

For the rest of Fiji group: Moderate to fresh southeast winds, gusty at times. Some showers over the northern and eastern parts of Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the northern Lau group and the eastern parts and interior of the other larger islands.

Fine apart from isolated afternoon and evening showers elsewhere. Rough seas. Outlook for tomorrow: Occasional showers over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti group and the eastern parts and interior of the other larger islands.
