A STRONG WIND WARNING PREVIOUSLY IN FORCE FOR THE LAND AREAS OF THE SOUTHWEST PARTS OF VITI LEVU [SIGATOKA TO PACIFIC HARBOUR] AND VANUA LEVU [NABOUWALU], THE NORTHEAST PARTS OF VITI LEVU [RAKIRAKI], YASAWA AND MAMANUCA GROUP, TAVEUNI AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS, LAU AND LOMAIVITI GROUP, KADAVU AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS IS NOW CANCELLED.

Situation: A high pressure system to the south of Fiji directs a fresh to strong southeast wind flow over the group. Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure with cloud and showers lies just to the north of the group. Associated cloud and showers affects the northern and eastern parts of the country.

Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji Group: Occasional showers, heavy at times and possible thundersto­rms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the northern Lau group and the eastern parts and interior of the Viti Levu. Cloudy periods with isolated afternoon or evening showers and possible thundersto­rms elsewhere. Isolated heavy falls likely. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas. Moderate to fresh southeast winds, gusty at times. Rough seas.

Outlook for tomorrow: Occasional showers, heavy at times and possible thundersto­rms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the northern Lau group and the eastern parts and interior of the Viti Levu. Cloudy periods with isolated afternoon or evening showers and possible thundersto­rms elsewhere.
