More Clinker, Wheat and Vehicles Offloaded
Economic activities are picking up slowly with the arrival of vessels carrying clinker, wheat and secondhand and new vehicles these two weeks. ClinkervesselCl earwater Bay was in Lautoka before it came to Suva on Sunday while Glengyle has been offloading wheat since Sunday in Suva.
Extending berthing
Fiji Ports Terminal Limited chief executive officer Hasthika Dela yesterday confirmed that ClearwaterBay was extending its berth due to the unfavourable weather conditions the country is currently facing.
The vessel had initially arrived at Lautoka Wharf on September 16 where it offloaded 14,190 tonnes of clinker before arriving at the Suva Wharf four days later to offload 14,131 tonnes of the same.
ClearwaterBay had arrived from Indonesia before berthing at the Lautoka Wharf. Earlier clinker vessel DahliaHarmony was at the Suva wharf for three weeks in August after arriving on August 2.
The vessel discharged 31,900 tonnes of cement clinker for Pacific Cement Limited ( PCL) in Lami.
Its delayed departure was due to a stop order issued by the Ministry of Waterways and Environment which halted the offloading of clinker due to OHS issues.
Schedule
“Glengyle is expected to offload 30,000 tonnes of wheat and is scheduled to depart at the end of the month possibly heading for New Zealand,” Mr Dela said.
Vehicles carrier Istra Ace is due into Suva from Japan next Friday.
According to Marine Traffic movements Istra Ace had departed from Sakai, Japan on September 18.
It is currently sailing at 14.5 knots heading to Suva, Fiji Islands.
IstrazAce is the eighth such carrier to offload second hand and new vehicles at the Suva Wharf in six months ( May to October) according to Mr Dela. Turandot had sailed from Singapore for Auckland before arriving two days later than scheduled arrival time at Suva last month where it offloaded 57 vehicles.
