Let’s Not Ignore the ‘Hidden Homeless’, says Adimaitoga
The Government has reminded Fijians not to ignore those called the ‘ hidden homeless’ in our midst. Assistant Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Selai Adimaitoga, made those comments during the launch of the Voice of Needy Foundation at the Nana’s Cuisine Restaurant in Nadi on Saturday.
She reiterated that the Government has invested towards assisting the vulnerable with a poverty benefit scheme which targets the households where poverty is the determining factor.
She said: “Homelessness and poverty isn’t just about literally having a roof over your head.
We’re also ignoring what’s called the ‘hidden homeless’. Those are people who move from one bed to another, night after night, with no stability and no security.”
She acknowledged the members for their enthusiasm and what they have done for the families who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Your motive to give hope, improve lives and empower the poor, that together with the best minds and heart in this wonderful work that you are here.
“If you light a lamp for somebody it will also brighten your path. The best way to find you is to lose yourself in the services of others,” she said.
Foundation founder and president , Mainaz Ali, said their members were proud in taking the lead in the fight against poverty during this pandemic.
Their motto is to give hope, inspire lives and empower the individuals.
They have active members in Nadi, Lautoka, Sigatoka Suva and Nausori.
