Work at Suva, Lautoka Ports Pick Up

Bulk carrier Glengyle finally departed for New Zealand after spending nine days at the Suva Wharf offloading wheat. Fiji Ports Terminal Limited chief executive officer Hasthika Dela said Glengyle had arrived at the Suva Wharf on September 20, 2020 from Australia to offload wheat designated for Fiji’s major manufactur­ers in the West and Suva.

The vessel had offloaded wheat at Lautoka before it came to Suva last Sunday.

“In May, 27,709 tonnes of wheat were offloaded at Suva Port while in June 2020, 33,000 tonnes of wheat were off loaded and during the month of August another 30,000 tonnes of wheat were offloaded.” Mr Dela said.

“At the Lautoka Wharf, 15,998 tonnes of wheat were offloaded in July 2020,” he said.

The vessel berthed at Suva Wharf after a voyage of nine days from port Adelaide.

While car carrier vessel Morning Midas had left on Saturday after offloaded vehicles, another car carrier vessel Istra Ace is expected at the Suva Port on Sunday from Sakai, Japan.

Oil and chemical carrier High Trader called into Suva on Monday night after arriving from Vuda in the west.

On the departure of Glengyle yesterday High Trader and container vessel Capitaine Tasman are the cause of a lot of activities on the Suva wharf.

Heavy goods and container carrying vehicles have been queuing up on the Suva wharf yesterday to clear containers offloaded from the two vessels. In Lautoka, container vessel Southern Moana is due today from Port Vila.

Kota Hapas left Suva on Monday and was offloading containers at the Lautoka port yesterday.
