Free food in a fridge
If you pass Thurston Street in Suva, you will see a refrigerator outside of the 350 Pacific office. The refrigerator is named ‘Just Recovery’. The fridge was donated by the Pacific Conference Churches (PCC) with an aim to provide free food to anyone in need.
This is a joint partnership with 350 Fiji.
The idea of the fridge was to reimagine, redistribute and refrigerate in way of building resilience in the community.

With the motto “take what you need and leave what you don’t”, the initiative has helped several people in need.
Pacific Islands climate action network, co-ordinator, Genevieve Jiva, said the fridge was open to the public for donations of fruits, vegetables and non-perishable items.
She said PCC donated vegetables every month, and now “it is going in the fridge”.
The fridge was initially launched last Saturday.
Managing Director for 350 Pacific, Fenton Lutunatabua, said: “We put the fridge out on Monday and we’ve had people come on both days till now.”
“This has helped many people who are in need especially our senior citizens who took vegetables from the fridge such as eggplants, cabbages, tomatoes and pineapple,” he said.
“An elderly lady who took vegetables gave us Samosa and roti parcels in return to offer her gratitude.”
350 Fiji hopes the initiative will be replicated in other places in the country.
