Weather update

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi at 3:30pm on Monday the 12th of October 2020.

A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR THE LAND AREAS OF LAU AND LOMAIVITI GROUP, KADAVU AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS, TAVEUNI AND NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS AND YASAWA GROUP AND IS NOW IN FORCE FOR THE NORTHEASTERN PARTS OF VANUA LEVU.

Situation: A high pressure system to the far south of the group directs a fresh to strong southeasterly wind flow over the whole country.

Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji Group:

For land areas of Lau and Lomaiviti Group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and Yasawa Group, Northeastern parts of Vanua Levu: Strong southeasterly winds with average speeds up to 50 km/hr. Elsewhere, moderate to fresh southeasterly winds, gusty at times. Rough to very rough seas.

Cloudy periods with some showers over the eastern parts and interior of the larger islands. Elsewhere, fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.

Outlook for tomorrow: Expect strong southeast winds average speed up to 50 km/hr over land areas of Lau and Lomaiviti group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and Yasawa group.
