The Namosi side have continued on with their outstandin­g record as they beat Lautoka 20–16 in their Skipper Cup clash at Lautoka’s Churchill Park yesterday.

What happened: The visitors started strongly with a try to Apakuki Vuaviri in the 23rd minute, which was converted for a 7-0 lead. Lautoka immediatel­y replied with a penalty before captain, Ilaisa Leca scored in the 27th minute and added his second try in the 36th minute. Both tries were not converted.

Halftime: Lautoka 13-7 Namosi. In the second half Namosi side came out strongly. They scored two unconverte­d tries to No.8 Kelepi Naimasi and Peni Tupou.

Lautoka narrowed the deficit to 17-16 with a penalty to Waisea Luveniyali before Namosi converted a late penalty to extend their lead 20-16.

Comments: Namosi team manager, Joe Vosanibola said: “We deserved the win because we worked for it.

“We know Lautoka would be tough on their home ground and we worked on their weaknesses.” Lautoka team manager, Sefanaia Scholte said: “We know Namosi is one of the giants of Fiji rugby. We will now shift our focus on to the next game.”
