The Suva Under-19 rugby team kept their hopes of reaching the top four alive after beating Naitasiri 15- 5 at Bidesi Park, Suva, yesterday.

Suva are currently on sixth spot of the Skipper Cup U19 points table while Naitasiri are on fifth place. Speaking to SUNports Suva U19 captain Richard Kaivei said, the win has encouraged them to play well in the next game.

“It has really helped us stay alive in the competition,” Kaivei said. “This win has really motivated us to work hard and play well in the remaining games.

“We had to dig deep against Naitasiri and make sure we stayed in the game.”

He said they were going to work on their handling skills and set-pieces as well.

What happened: Naitasiri opened up the game with their big forwards heavily involved.

It was in the 15th minute that Naitasiri lock Sitiveni Kaila dived over to score a try and take them to a 5-0 lead.

It took Suva time to settle down and when they did, they controlled possession and dominated territory. They camped deep inside the Naitasiri territory and kept the mo

mentum.

Halftime: Naitasiri 5-0 Suva

Suva came back and continued with their play in the second half. In the 50th minute continuous pressure saw the Naitasiri defence buckle and Suva prop Simeli Nainima crashed for a try with Kaivei converting for a 7-5 lead.

Naitasiri did not to recover from the Suva onslaught as they failed to stop Suva winger Paul Dolokoto from scoring their second try to extend the lead 12-5.

In the 65th minute, Suva got a penalty and Kaivei converted for a 15-5 win.
