WAF, FRCS SIGN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

-

The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) and the

Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to cooperate and coordinate on data and information sharing.

The MOU expresses a mutual commitment in complementing each organisation’s administrative duties and regulatory functions, particularly to strengthen efficient and timely access to information.

FRCS outgoing acting chief executive officer, Fane Vave, said the MOU allowed FRCS to receive updated and current information from

WAF on its contractors and subcontractors, and utilise this information to update their database as well as enhance tax compliance.

“The information and data received from WAF will help strengthen our tax compliance,” Ms Vave said.

“There may be taxpayers, who are operating businesses but are not registered with FRCS.

“Through this MOU we will be able to track them by matching their information from WAF database with our records.

“The MOU will greatly assist FRCS to be fully aware of the contractors and subcontractors connected with WAF which will then lead to the development of targeted tax compliance strategies.”

Ms Vave also said information sharing between FRCS and WAF will assist with the registration of customers, who qualify for the Government free water subsidy.

WAF Chief Executive Officer, Mr Barry Omundson said WAF is delighted to partner up with the FRCS for information and data sharing.

“We are happy to assist the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service and hope that this will greatly strengthen tax compliance in Fiji,” Mr Omundson said.
