Asad Ali has invested $ 500,000 into his first butchery business in densely-populated Nakasi.

Abbus Quality Halal Meats Pte Ltd is located at Nakasi Plaza. It opened for business yesterday.

“This is a family business and our first butcher to be opened,” said Mr Ali.

Speaking to Fiji Sun, Mr Ali said he had now fulfilled his father’s dream.

Mr Ali’s family used to do large scale kettle farming in Navua since 2009.

His father had a vision to open a butchery, but he died in 2016. “As time went, my father’s vision was always at the back of my mind,” he said.

“I was looking for a space in Nakasi for more than three years, and there was no vacant space available. “Last year in December many tenants had to move out, so we got the opportunity to move in and start setting up our butchery. “Our focus is retail and wholesale as well and we can deliver to restaurants and supermarkets.”

There is a variety of meat in the butchery which are separated from beef, he said. Mr Ali said as they progressed, they were planning to venture into manufacturing. “Now we only manufacture our own sausages which are beef and lamb. We are also planning to venture into canning as well.” In the next six months, Mr Ali hopes to capture the wholesale market.

Mr Ali’s family also have a construction company, but it took a hit during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“So, we had to look for ways we can venture into and create employment for people,” he said.
