Rain ‘Good Omen’ for Chiefly House
Villagers believed it was good omen when it rained during the opening of the $1 million chiefly house, Sukanacagi House, of the Momo (chief) na Tui Vitogo in Lautoka yesterday.
They also believed that it was a blessing that pastors from different churches attended.
The Vanua of Sukanacagi consists of six villages, Namoli, Namatawalu, Naviago, Vitogo, Vakabuli and Saru. These villages were represented by their yavusas, mataqalis and their 50 tokatokas gathered at Vitogo Village to celebrate their new traditional house.
Their chief, the Tui Vitogo, Ratu Wiliame Ratudale Sovasova, will now occupy his new chiefly home. Spokesperson, Opposition MP Jese Saukuru said various church leaders were invited to bless the new chiefly home. “The Momo na Tui Vitogo had initiated this and the completion was miracle.
“Despite the negative effects of the pandemic on our economy and the current situation we going through, we have seen the hand of God in the completion of this building.
“Through the leadership of the Tui Vitogo the Vanua has been able to achieve this.”
He said the completion of Sukanacagi House showed the people’s solidarity, their cooperation, love for the Vanua and trust in God.
Mr Saukuru said the chiefly house was destroyed by Cyclone Evan in 2012. Since then they had been fundraising to build the house.
Contributions had come from the Vanua, overseas sponsors plus the various business houses such as Subrails Furniture.
