Saheed Hopes For A Good Samaritan
Thirteen-year-old Saheed Chand is hopeful that a Good Samaritan will show up soon with a Back to School package nine days before school starts this year.
Saheed’s father Ramesh Chand died during TropicalCyclone Yasa last month when he was crushed under a wall of his house at Velovelo, Labasa.
The 46-year-old sugar cane farmer, his wife and two sons were sheltering in their house when the building collapsed. Saheed’s older brother Sham Chand was also trapped under the wall and suffered minor injuries.
Saheed lost all his school stationary including uniform and bag apart from their family home and father in the recent Category Five tropical cyclone that did devastating damage in the North.
The scary experience and the fact that he lost father have made him more determined.
He wants to be a policeman to honour his late father when he grows up.
“None of my school uniform or stationary was saved, all were destroyed by TCYasa,” Saheed said.
“I miss my dad. If he was alive he would provide the finance to fund my school needs.
“There is only three of and it is difficult.
“I believe there are people out there who can help those in my situation. I really want to go back to school but I have nothing left.
“I want to go back to school to meet my friends and teachers. us left
“This will help me achieve my dream and be a better person.” Saheed will be in Year Eight this year at Bulileka Santan Dharam Primary School.
His favourite subject is Maths. Sitting next to his mother yesterday, Saheed had his fingers crossed anticipating a Good Samaritan walk past their place. With crops damaged on their 10 acre farm he is helping his mother and older brother clear up the compound while he waits for an angel to come by.
Sham Chand is waiting for the Year 13 results to be released. He hopes to enrol into a Bachelors of Commerce programme at the University of the South Pacific this year.
