- SIMIONE HARAVANUA SUVA Edited by: Maika Bolatiki

Early professional environment and attitude towards his rugby career is the key to Flying Fijians captain and Bristol Bears centre Semi Radradra’s consistent performance.

The switch to a professional environment like the NRL at 19 years of age Radradra paved his way to professionalism.

He quickly learned to adapt to the professional level where he learned to watch his diet, keeping his body in shape and maintaining his fitness level throughout and after the season.

Unlike most Fijian players at 28 their performance drops , Radradra he keeps those stats ticking.

He was highly rated by his club for a good game against Exeter Chiefs on Saturday night.

Let’s be realistic and support our young rugby players in the country by introducing or helping them adapt to a professional environment. The standard has been set by Radradra and he is setting a good example that young rugby should follow.

It is not only healthy for them but for the Fijian rugby as a whole imagine if we had a few more players like him in the national team, the onus is now on the young rugby players and how they want there career to turn out in the future Radradra continued his fine form now with the Bristol Bears where he scored a try in their 20-7 win over Exeter Chiefs in last Saturdays Gallagher Premiership top of the table clash.

According to the Bristol Bears news Radrara was rated eight for his overall performance during the game.

Even in a game where the ball wasn’t thrown around a considerable amount, Semi Radradra found

a way to shine.

The Fijian centre was constantly hunting for the ball, and when he carried strong which pierced holes in the Chiefs defence and gave his side a strong attacking platform. Radradra also picked an excellent gap in the Exeter defensive line to clinch the win for the Bears with a try.

Another Fijian was rated along

Side Radradra.

Siva Naulago: He was rated seven Naulago’s for blitz defence will have had the hearts of Bears fans in their mouth, with the Fijian winger at times leaving his side exposed defensively missing three tackles.

But with Naulago still learning the intricacies of the Premiership, the former rugby league man can be forgiven with his attacking flair shining on a difficult day for the backs at Sandy Park.

Naulago made 63 metres in attack, from just four carries and consistently caused trouble for the Chiefs defence.

WHAT HAPPENED?

A cagey opening quarter was brought to life by Randall, whose quickly taken penalty caught Chiefs napping, but his kick ahead for the supporting Ben Earl was grounded by Sam Hidalgo-Clyne in-goal.

But the scrum half was back in the action again shortly after, applying the finishing touches to a cleverly-worked lineout move to open the scoring.

The scrum was a scrappy affair early on, and after numerous resets and free-kicks, referee Karl Dickson eventually ran out of patience and issued yellow cards to both Woolmore and Williams, making it 14-a-side.

The hosts levelled the scores five minutes before half time when Jonny Hill crashed over from close range with Simmonds converting for 7-7.

Sheedy’s penalty edged the Bears in front after neat work from Sinckler and Radradra put them on the front foot.

But the game’s decisive moment arrived ten minutes from time, when Radradra raced on to O’Conor’s deft pass to stretch over for his side’s second try, with Sheedy’s conversion opening up a ten-point lead.

KEY MOMENT

With the game very much in the balance at 7-10, a scrum inside the Bears 22 saw Hughes carry strongly into midfield.

From the next phase, Randall’s wide pass picked out Lloyd, who plucked the ball out of the sky and dropped it on to his right foot in the same movement. The ball sat up nicely and once regathered by the Welsh flyer, his left-footed kick ahead forced Simmonds to carry the ball over his own line.

From here, the Bears turned the screw and minutes later, Radradra dived over to score the game’s decisive try.
