Katonibau backs Coach Baber

Former Fiji Airways Fijian 7s forward Aisake Katonibau has full confidence in Fiji 7s head coach Gareth Baber. Katonibau was part of Ben Ryan’s 2016 Olympic Games squad and then joined Babers team in the 20172018 HSBC Seven Series.

Packed with experience the Army Officer knows how it’s like to win big tournament­s to lay his trust on national 7s coach Gareth Baber and his team will really boost their preparatio­ns ahead of the Olympic Games.

With a few months away from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games Katonibau knows that Baber will surely fill a good side to defend our Gold Medal in Tokyo.

Speaking to Sun sports Katonibau has urged the fans to rally behind Baber.

“Baber is a winning coach, he has won the HSBC Seven Series so he knows what he is doing, his got the right players so all we can do is support him and our men,” he said.” “Gareth has got a game plan, he knows his goals and vision so I wish him and his family all the very best and also for the boys to defend the gold medal in Tokyo.”

Being a good leader himself during his playing days the now Northland head coach said he believed in the current Fiji 7s squad.

“One thing that I’ve learned while playing in Baber’s team is that he selects players that have strong leadership attributes,” he said.

“He establishe­s leadership groups within the team.”

“Doing that is very important for the team once you have establish strong leadership group within it really creates a winning culture framework.”

“So for me personally the players that he has selected all of them have leadership attributes so Fiji’s is in great hands.”

Super Seven Series

With the new local seven series a week away, Katonibau is excited and is looking forward to the new competitio­n.My perspectiv­e as former 7s player for me personally it’s been a long time since the competitio­n as such to happen here in Fiji and I’m excited for the Fiji 7s team and I thank FRU for putting up such a competitio­n.

This will help our 7s boys prepare well for the Olympic Games.
