Emberson is now Acting Secretary General

The Deputy Secretary-General to Parliament Jeanette Emberson has replaced Viniana Namosimalu­a as Acting Secretary-General.

Ms Namosimalu­a confirmed yesterday that her last day of work was on Tuesday and Mrs Emberson has taken up the acting post.

In a statement, the Constituti­onal Offices Commission said they have decided to re-advertise the vacancy and have advised the President to appoint Mrs Emberson until a substantiv­e appointmen­t is made.

“Ms Emberson’s acting appointmen­t is effective from 12 January 2021, since Ms Viniana Namosimalu­a’s appointmen­t as acting Secretary-General to Parliament was not renewed,” the Commission said. Mrs Emberson (nee Terubea) attended Adi Cakobau School (ACS) from 1996 to 2002 and was a Uci House member.

She was badged head girl in 2002 and comes from a family of five girls.

She is the daughter of the late Methodist Church Reverend Rogorogo Terubea. She is a lawyer by profession and worked at the Attorney-General’s Office for three years before her appointmen­t as Deputy SG in February 2015.

Meanwhile, the Commission also confirmed reappointm­ents to the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimina­tion Commission and the Public Service Commission for a term of three years.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem has been reappointe­d for a term of five years.

Furthermor­e, appointmen­ts for the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, the Commission­er of the Fiji Police Force and the Commission­er of the Fiji Correction­s Service will be made following an open merit recruitmen­t process.
