Just months after launching his courier business, Elvin Lal is considering expansion plans.

He is on the road to success with his company Road Cart

Truck and Logistics.

The Lautoka-based courier company was born out of COVID-19 crisis.

Mr Lal, 32, is a certified engineering project manager.

He resigned from his previous job after he was offered a job in New Zealand.

Finding his mojo

However, the opportunity was missed when borders were lockdown.

The situation compelled him to depend on his wife, a school teacher, for eight months, while he searched for his mojo.

That was, until the duo identified an opportunity in the market to make money.

The couple took the risk of investing savings of more than $50,000 in the purchase of a new truck.

Mr Lal said they were fortunate to get a few contracts from freight and logistics companies.

“It is slow now, but the potential is substantial,” the Ba native said

New purchases

Mr Lal’s courier services operates Fiji-wide.

Road Cart Truck and Logistics employs three people.

“Rates are competitive,” Mr Lal said.

“Having experience in a lot of managerial roles, our approach is professional.

“We follow a modern management system and continue to invest in the system.”

In the next three years, Road Cart Truck and Logistics anticipates the purchase of a few more light and heavy commercial trucks.

The expansion will include an increase in local employment, Mr Lal said.

Mr Lal urged young people to work hard for their dreams.

“Success is not final; failure is not fatal,” he said.

“It is the courage that continues to count.

“Live outside your comfort zone because opportunities do not happen, you create them. Finally keep those close who support you during hard times.”
