Serve our communities with humility and humbleness. Single mother, Loraine Louey thought she would be homeless for a while after losing her house to the destructive winds of Tropical Cyclone Yasa.

Her worries were brought to a halt as it was taken into the good hands of the Fijian Government. The Ministry of Youth and Sports stepped in to provide Ms Louey and her children a new home.

Accommodated at the Ministry’s Naleba Youth Training Centre in the Northern Division, Ms Louey said that it has made a difference for her family during a struggling time for them.

Minister, Parveen Bala, during his visit to the Macuata Province with a team from the Ministry last month, donated food rations and clothing to Ms Louey, her three daughters and grand-daughter.

“My children really enjoyed the treats and the clothes and groceries brought in the boxes were really helpful to us too,” Ms Louey said.

Sitting in her new house, she recounted the unfortunate events that took place on that fateful Thursday, December 17, 2020.

When the cyclone struck, Ms Louey was in Suva to visit her husband as he had been incarcerated at the Naboro Prison. She immediately returned after she received the news of the ordeal.

Minister Bala has urged all Fijians to help uplift those suffering in the aftermath of Cyclone Yasa.

“We have done it before, and we will find the goodness within ourselves again to ensure no community, no neighbour, and no Fijian is left behind,” he said.
