Franck Boivert rates Wame Naituvi just as fast and skillful as former Flying Fijian wing Rupeni Caucaunibuca.

And the Nadroga Rugby Union technical director has recommended that the Flying Fijians coaching staff to keep an eye on the former Cuvu College student who is now a utility player with Pro-D2 club MontDe-Marsan in France.

“He is very fast, matured, physical and a skilful player just like our world rated Caucau,”Boivert said. “He is in the making of a good fullback.

“I’ve been following him for a very long time and it only a matter of time before he makes it in the Top 14.”

The 24-year old is one of the fastest backline players in France.

“Wame can play at both fullback and wing which is a huge advantage for any team,” he said.

“He started at a very young age in that position back at Cuvu College so it’s not new for Wame.”

“His counter attack ability is too good and fast from anywhere in the pitch.”

“I would like to see him in the Flying

Fijians squad but it is up to the coaching staff.”

Naituvi is one of the youngsters making a mark in the Pro D2 competition playing seven matches and scoring 10 tries.

He plays alongside fellow countrymen in former Flying Fijians utility Vereniki Goneva, Nacani Wakaya and Joe Vakacegu.

The Nabau, Tuva, Nadroga native has been playing for the French club for the past six years.

He took up the rugby offer after playing for Cuvu College in the Fiji Secondary Schools Deans Trophy competition in 2016.

Speaking to SUNsports from France, Naituvi confirms he wants to play for Fiji.

“It’s a childhood dream to play for the Flying Fijians,”he said.

“To play alongside Goneva and hear his story about the Flying Fijians really encouraged me to play better.

“He taught me a lot in terms of my positional play and that has really boosted my game.

“Playing with some international players as well really helped me.” Naituvi has set his goal for 2021. “I know to make to the Flying Fijians I need to work hard,” he said. “There are a lot of young players out there who also want to don the jersey but it comes down to who wants it the most.

“My plans are to first improve my game at the Pro D2 and try and make it to the French Top 14.

“Making the Flying Fijians would be icing on the cake.”
