More than 150 cars are expected to be part of the fourth Explizit Car Club (ECC) car show at the Fiji Sports Council (FSC) car park in Suva today.

Club secretary Elvin Kumar says the car show is an opportunity for car lovers to come and flaunt their vehicles.

“There are also a lot of cars that are modified in Fiji and this is a platform for car owners to display their work,” Mr Kumar said.

“It is also an opportunity for car lovers to extend their network as we have members in the West and Central divisions,” he said.

“The day is more than a car show as it also includes entertainment and foods on sale. This is to allow those coming down to take their time.”

The FSC car park is capable of holding 200 cars. Proceeds from the car show will be used to help individuals and families affected by the recent Tropical Cyclone.

Up for grabs today are 80 prizes and the show is not limited to cars only as motorbikes are also included. ECC’s humble beginnings was in 2014 when a group of taxi drivers got together to help those they feel need assistance.

“We have grown to 32 members now, and our charity work list has grown over the years,” Mr Kumar said.

“We collect food and cash every two weeks to give to families whose plights come to our knowledge. “Families we have helped so far include those who have had their homes destroyed by fire, those losing breadwinners of their families to accidents and the homeless just to mention some.

“With our wide network we do not concentrate only on one area,

last week we were at Raunitogo in the Sigatoka Valley helping a family there. We were advised by one of our members living within that vicinity that that particular family needed help.”

The first ECC car show was held in the west at Namaka Public School group early 2019 and the second one later that year at Korovuto Primary School ground.

ECC held their third car show at the Vodafone arena car park last year which they presented the proceeds from the event to the Prime Minister to help those affected at the start of COVID-19 here. “Proceeds we collect from this car show will be dedicated to those affected by Tropical Cyclone Yasa in the north.”

The car show today starts at 10am and concludes at 9pm.

The organisers have engaged professional motor mechanics to be judges for transparency.

Car Show fee is $25 while entry fee for spectators is $3. Chief guest is Minister for Education Rosy Akbhar.
