WITH NO DELAY DESPITE TWO PREGNANCIES
Janis Brown, 23, is a go getter. After giving birth to two sons, she still fought her way through into realising her childhood dream.
On Friday, her hard work and perseverance were rewarded when the young mother graduated with her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the Fiji National University’s School of Dentistry and Oral Health.
Two weeks was all that took for the young mum to rest after giving birth before she was back on her feet continuing with her studies. The National Toppers Recipient never wasted any time and was able to complete her studies with her friends who started with her in 2016.
“It has always been a childhood dream ever since I was a young girl to become a Dentist,” Ms Brown said.
“It has been a tough journey, throughout the five years, I got pregnant twice, but I still continued with my education without any delays. “I now have two sons, the eldest is one-yearold and the younger one is just three-months.
She said her parents support was overwhelming.
“It’s common nowadays that when a young girl gets pregnant, she is left to look after her baby and chances of her completing her education is slim.
“I’m grateful for my parents, two weeks after giving birth they took over looking after my babies as they sent me back to school.
“That was my motivating factor. I wanted to make my parents proud and a bright future for my two sons.”
Ms Brown hails from Malevu, Nadroga and shares maternal links to Noa’tau, Rotuma. “I don’t have a message for single moms who aspire to complete their education, but I have a message for their families.
“Your support is very important, pregnancy or bearing children should never stop women from pursuing their education.
“They need a family that will support them in the face of challenges and just to be able to tell them that they are behind her all the way.” She dedicated her achievements to her parents for their never-ending support through her five years in Medical School.
