The Xplicit Car Club of Fiji hosted a fund drive yesterday to raise money for victims of TC Yasa.

Club secretary, Elvin Kumar, said 150 cars were displayed during the day-long show at the Fiji Sports Council car park at Laucala Bay, in Suva.

“Some cars have come from as far as Nadi,” Mr Kumar said.

Each vehicle showcased some of the 80 categories that were contested, he said.

The categories included best lights, best sound, best SUV and best car wrap, he said

“They’re judged according to how they have modified their vehicles, be it for lights, car wrap, interior and sound.

“The judges are outsiders who are from the car industry.”

Winners walked away with trophies, and giveaway prizes that included fuel vouchers from sponsors, Mr Kumar said.

A cake-cutting ceremony was held in honor of the event.

Participants paid $25 while spectators paid $3 to the show which ended at around 9 last night.

The club has 31 registered members. “Car shows were held at night, but because of the curfew, we have decided to have it during the day.

At the time of this publication, a tally on funds raised had not concluded.

The winners of the contest were announced late last night.

Minister for Education, Rosy Akbar, officiated at the contest where she commended the association for raising the bar through a charitable drive.

“Funds raised will be used to buy food rations, among other essential household items for families affected in the North,” she said.

Rizwan Buksh, a participant, said the show was an avenue for car modification hobbists to demonstrate their art.

“I spent $2000 on modification for this event, and I will invest another $5000 in more modification for the February show,” Mr Buksh said.

“Some parts needed for the next modification are being imported from China.”

Mr Buksh was a contender for the best family car category, the best lights category and the best SUV category. com.fj
