Kasavu FC have created history after winning their first ever Vodafone National Regional Club Championship.

The Setareki Hughes captained side were ruthless against hosts Greenstar thumping them 3-0 to win their first title after 76 years at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka yesterday.

Kasavu FC players and their official are $20,000 richer as part of their spoils in claiming the country’s top club prize.

Speaking to Sun sports coach Mohammed Nizam said the win marked a new chapter for the club. “This club has been running for more than 42 years and to win today is a special moment for the community of Kasavu and the former players,” he said.

“It’s unbelievable when something like this happens it has been a long time coming.”

“This is a new beginning for the club now we have to start thinking out of the box to develop more players for the club.”

“My grandfather played in this club and then my father and I have

continued on.”

“Now as a coach then we finally win the cup it is something that I will live in my memory forever in fact a story that I will tell my grandchildren.”

Nizam couldn’t hold back his emotions as he thanked a young Kasavu FC side for the win.

“The boys deserved the win because they have really worked hard for it,” he said.

“In the hurdle I reminded them that their hard work, sacrifice and commitment has finally paid off.” “They have been tireless and this win is the icing on the cake for these young players.”

“The win was more than the win for Inter-District Championship after they have been given $15,000

from their sponsors and their prize money of $5,000.”

“I would like to thank the Nadroga side Greenstar for for coming out strong and giving us a good challenge.”

“I would like to acknowledge our sponsors Mr Khan and family from Sydney Australia this win is dedicated to them. They have been sponsoring this team for the last four years.”

“Not forgetting our fans, families and members of Kasavu community for their support.”

“To me winning is easy but defending is hard. The boys knows that they will be given $20,000 for this.so to them it was more than a win for IDC.

“The team we are like family. We live next to each other and that strong attachment they showed in the field today.”
