Achurch youth group and a business in the West are showing how collaborations can boost our 30million trees in 15 years target. Coronation Methodist Church Youth Fellowship received a sponsorship cheque of $1500 from Dayals

Sawmillers Limited for the tree replanting initiative.

The Ministry of Forestry’s pledge has to date recorded more than three million trees and mangroves planted.

Dayals Sawmillers Limited would pay the Coronation Methodist Youth Fellowship for potting their seedlings which will be used for replanting.

Minister of Forestry Osea Naiqamu said: “Our Ministry is no longer working in isolation, it needs similar partnerships such as this to ensure our forests are suitably managed.

“Today both of you have taken a huge step forward and have become part of the process in sustainably managing Fiji’s natural wealthy, our forests.”

Coronation Methodist Church Youth Fellowship leader Kevueli Nasedra said: “Our target is 10,000 so the schedule is 40 weeks so our target today (Monday) is 1000 and we are almost done with the 500 this morning so we will have lunch then afterward we do another 500.”

He said the sponsorship would be a source of income for the group

rather than fundraising.

“We do not have to go do the fundraising because the money is already there and we thank the Ministry of Forestry after they told us that if we do this project successfully then they will give us another one,” he said.
