2 Vessel Carriers Call in One Week
Vehicle carrier Don Juan arrived at the Port of Suva two days behind schedule, the second such vessel to be offloading another load of vehicles in a week. Last Wednesday Garnet Ace occupied almost the main Suva wharf. It also arrived two days behind schedule.
Yesterday Don Juan offloaded 148 vehicles according to Fiji Ports Terminal Limited chief executive officer, Hasthika Dela.
“Don Juan arrived from Auckland, New Zealand and from Suva will head to Japan,” Mr Dela said. Don Juan was built in 1995 and is sailing under the flag of Singapore. Its carrying capacity is 15199 DWT and her current draught is reported to be 9.3 meters. Her length overall (LOA) is 199.11 meters and her width is 32.29 meters.
Meanwhile the two main ports of Suva and Lautoka have been picking up traffic with the arrival of international cargo vessels and tankers.
In Suva over the last 19 days, 14 container vessels, three tankers and two vehicle carriers have called in while in Lautoka 16 container vessels and one bulk carrier has called into the sugar city. According to the Fiji Ports Terminal Limited January 2021 schedule another five container vessels are due to arrive in Suva and likewise for Lautoka.
Container vessel Kokopo chief arrived on Saturday in Suva discharging 245 tonnes of cargo after arriving from Lautoka.
“Last year, Kokopo Chief made seven trips in total to Fiji and it uploaded approximately 1400 tonnes of cargo at the Suva Port,” he said. “Kokopo Chief left the Port of Suva on Monday for Apia, Samoa.” The vessel was built in 1991 and it sails under the Hong Kong flag.
Its carrying capacity is 981 TEU and her current draught is reported to be 7.6 meters.
Her length overall (LOA) is 158.06 meters and her width is 22.2 meters.
Capitaine Wallis is a frequent visitor to Fiji, dropping IN three times at Lautoka and Suva respectively this month.
