MOBIL UPRISING 7S TO HOST NATIONAL TEAMS
TWO FIJI TEAMS TO FEATURE RUGBY 7S COMP
After a week out playing with their clubs in the Super Seven Series the Fiji 7s team will be fielding two teams at the Mobil Uprising 7s tournament. This was confirmed by the tournaments organizing committee during their sponsorship announcement yesterday.
The Mobil Uprising 7s tournament is scheduled for the 29th-30th of this month at the Uprising Sports Centre in Deuba as part of the Fiji 7s teams preparations for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Organizer Ropate Kauvesi said tournament will follow the HSBC Sevens format.
“The exciting bid in this tournament is that
it will base strictly on the 16 teams as it is in the HSBC Sevens Series and we will be working exactly to HSBC timing. We are delighted to let the public and the world know that two Fiji teams will be participating in this tournament,” he said.
“There will be two Fijiana teams and four local teams that will be participating.
“We will also have the 14 best teams in Fiji competing against them so we are trying to get the players in those 14 clubs to put their hands up as well and it will give Gareth Baber another view from looking at these players competing with players in the national squad who are in camp right now. “This will also allow our management team in the 7s team to basically help our players understand their recovery period between
games as they build up towards the Olympics which is very important because recovering in any sevens tournament is huge. The quicker you recover the quicker you get ready for the next game.”
Turf
“We should expect a slippery turf on a nice hot day so just take in a lot of fluid because it will be a fast pace game playing in that turf whether it rains as well it will be an enjoyable two days of exciting rugby.”
Fans
Come down and enjoy good rugby and the entry fee is $5 flat so fans can come down and witness our boys in action.
Sitting capacity
“We can put 200 in the stands so all around us can fill about 2000
This is not part of the super series but we are working with Gareth as a back to back for the series so that players quickly adjust to the timing and the recovery of their bodies through the week so this was a discussion I had with Baber last year,” Kauvesi said. “Prize money for the winner is $5000 for the women is $2000
Registration fees is $500 for men and $200 for women.”
