Graduate Dedicates Success to Parents
Idid it for my parents. These were the words of Rahul Deo, 23, who graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the Fiji National University. Mr Deo said the words of his father would always ring in his ears whenever it gets tough.
When he left Lautoka in 2016 to pursue his degree, the young man knew well of his parents expectations of him.
Today he is as a graduate engineer at Promex Consulting in Nadi.
“Work hard and build your own legacy, we are counting on you, were the words of my Father to me when I left my Lautoka home to come and study in Suva,” Mr
Deo said.
“Whenever it gets tough those words would always ring in my ears.”
His parents, who are both schoolteachers, were his inspiration in realising his childhood dream.
“When I am awake studying for exams at 4am, I tell myself that I was doing it for my parents who
HAvE MADE A LOt OF sACrIfiCEs IN their life,” he said.
“The one thing which gave me the push was my family’s faith in me. When I was at my lowest point in life, my mum would tell me never to give up easy and to always
KEEP fiGHtING.”
The former Natabua High School student said he would always cherish the struggles he had to endure in university, especially being separated from his parents for four years. “I have no regrets,” he said.
He dedicated his achievements to his family and friends and acknowledged them for their undying support.
His message to the youths was: “In todays world, a degree can take you places you could never imagine. Like Benjamin Franklin said “an investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” I would recommend that you study and hustle hard now for a brighter future.”
