Dotton re-elected as Soroptimist International Ba president
Doctor Maria Dotton said she was thankful to be chosen to serve a third term as the Soroptimist International Branch president for another two years.
“Being chosen as the president for the third time is indeed a privilege and a great honor. I will be handling this position though to train our young members to total up offices in the future as I believe that leadership is there for us to serve and create other future leaders,” she said. Other elected office bearers were the secretary Kate Saverio, assistant secretary Ronika Mishra, treasurer Rama Nair along with new members Farisha Ali, Naushad Begum, Neelam Rekha, Stella William, Josephine Qalo, and Bernadette Qalo with five others who did not attend due to family commitments.
“Ba has 23 continuing members, two transferees, one junior, one online, and nine newly inducted members with a total of 36 everyone pushes through by end of the month,” she said.
“SI (Soroptimist International) Ba will continue to strengthen its major project, the empowerment of women through the Ba Women’s Forum.”
She said the set plans for this year included more awareness programmes on issues affecting women of all ages.
“SI Ba will also continue to assist marginalised women and girls, it will activate its cancer awareness and screening program, it will advocate in every opportunity it has to stop violence against women and children and will contribute towards special children and the homeless,” she said.
The Minister for Education, Heritage, and Arts Rosy Akbar who is also a member of the Soroptimist International Ba Branch stressed that women needed to join the organisation as agents of change by empowering other women.
