Veiyasana ruggers champion clean environment, patriotism

As part of their social responsibility, members of the Veiyasana Rugby League Club gathered for a clean up campaign yesterday.

The team of more than 20 youths began their clean up from R.B Patel South Point Supermarket in Nakasi to Wainibuku Bridge along the Kings Road Highway.

Team manager, Adriu Nabose, said the newly formed team wanted to make a difference in their community by keeping it clean, and having a sense of discipline among our players.

“We wanted to involve ourselves more into community work with the motive of keeping these youths engaged and staying away from drugs, peer pressure and teaching them to be better citizens of this country,” he said.

“The team bonding activity is to also bring out and nurture hidden rugby talents of the youths who are involved with the club.”

Two groups were dispatched to both sides of the highway and walked simultaneously collecting bags of rubbish.

“It is our citizen’s responsibility to dispose rubbish in its proper bins, but it seems we are neglecting our country’s pride,” he said. The club consists of boys from different provinces around the country hence the name, ‘Veiyasana’.

They are currently sponsored by Nairs Transport Ltd, Sports World and All Freight Logistics.

“The rugby season will be starting in a few weeks’ time so for now we are working hard on improving our community outreach programmes and in the process, strengthen our core values and mission,” he said.

Mr Nabose also encouraged those interested in joining the team to come for the trial outs at St Joseph the Worker Primary School grounds at 4pm to 6pm on Monday or contact him on 8401110.

We see that three members of the SODELPA management committee were banned from their meeting for allegedly working for another proposed political party.

They seem to be having “an each way bet” for their own gain which is clearly not allowed by the political party rules.

Then they see it fit to blame the SOE for their incompetence and sinister disloyalty. It’s always someone else’s fault, not theirs. Such people must never be trusted, in my opinion.
