Sevens legend Waisale Serevi was grateful and thankful that his son and namesake has joined the Japan 7s squad. Serevi said the journey continues. He said:”Grateful to God for the opportunity for Junior to join the Japan 7s squad. Played 5 years in Japan for Mitsubishi Motors Kyoto from 1992 to 1997 and little that I know that one day Junior will be back in Japan for University and to be part of the Japan 7s squad this year is amazing.

“It has been a challenging journey for the family, but thank God He was there for us all the time.” Serevi thanked family members and fans worldwide who always lend their support in trying times. “Thank you so much to all friends and families for your support and prayers. To our Midnight Pastor Waisale Pierre all the best on your next camp, we are all excited and really proud of you, keep working hard. God is awesome, great and good all day every day.” Participating under the name Japan Select, both the men’s and women’s teams will play across four days of competition on April 3, 4, 8, 9.

The women teams taking part are Japan, USA, Canada, Kenya, France and Brazil while the men will play Canada, Kenya, Uganda, Spain, France and Chile. The teams are preparing for the resumption of the World Rugby Sevens Series and the Tokyo Olympic Games in July. Feedback: oseab@fijisun.com.fj
