Lee favourite for Girmit Pro-Am: Prakash
Fiji PGA Order of Merit leader Sam Lee is firm favorite to win the inaugural Girmit Pro-Am Golf Championship at the Lautoka Golf Club on Saturday. Lee leads with 1887.50 points followed by Viliame Sorowale who is second on the with 1391.67pts
Fiji PGA secretary Roneel Prakash (1087.50) should give Lee and Sorowale a tough challenge.
“The event will feature all the top players in the country so it will be really competitive,” he said.
Fiji PGA treasurer Amitesh Chandra said the event is sanctioned by the Fiji PGA and supported by the Global Girmit Institute, Post Fiji, and Fiji PGA.
“Regular seasoned professionals Vikrant Chandra, Zoheer Ahmad, Munesh Prasad, Tomasi Tuivuna Arvind Lal, and Meh Buksh are all sure starters,” he said.
“We are ancipating a good tournament and we know that all these golfers will provide tough competition.
“They have been playing in many tournaments in the country and they meet yet again.
“We hope that the weather will be fine so that the golfers have a good competition.
“Sam Lee will looks great to win but there will be surprises.
“I urge all the fans out there to come and support these golfers on the day.”
Chandra added that close to 80 golfers from around the country will be participating in the event.
“The professionals will be battling for $4000 total prize purse while the amateurs will fight for $1000 worth of lucrative prizes,” he said.
“The course is in great condition and good scores are expected.”
Furthermore, the Nadi Airport Golf Club will be hosting a mixed stableford competition on Monday sponsored by the Nadi women. Meanwhile, round three of the Bank South Pacific-sponsored Summer Cup monthly medal stroke competition will be held on April 10.
