Yanuca Island best backyard spot for Jenny Brown

- SUSANA HIRST-TUILAU RAKIRAKI Feedback: susana.tuilau@fijisun.com.fj

Development Aid practitioner by profession, Jenny Brown lived and worked in Fiji. When her contract expired, she and her family were very reluctant to move to Malawi.

She has lived in Eswatini, India, Malawi, Solomon Islands and Fiji.

Ms Brown loves the outdoors and exploring new countries and making friends.

During her time in Fiji, she made sure she visited as much of Fiji as she could and has been to some places not all Fijians have been able to visit yet.

What’s one place you’d take every visitor to Fiji and why?

I would take friends on a road trip all over Fiji as it is just so beautiful!

What’s your secret backyard favourite spot?

My secret spot in Fiji won’t be a secret if I share it, but because I love it so much I will share - it is Yanuca Island - near Beqa.

The beach is pristine, so is the sea and corals. Shells aplenty.

A kind and friendly caretaker greets you and makes you feel welcomed.

We’ve had some amazing day trips there and I long for the day I can return and soak up the magic of this idyll.

What’s your favourite place in Fiji for a pie/coffee?

It used to be Rhubarb Cafe before they went into a year long hiatus, but I believe they are back in business again at a new location.

I would imagine they are just as good as before.

What’s one Fiji spot on the top of your bucket list?

I would love to scuba dive in the warm and embracing Pacific Ocean.

I only ever snorkelled which was truly a delight, but scuba diving would take me to another level of exploration!
