Physionet UK Supplies Mobility Aid, Medical Equipment
The second consignment of disability equipment from Physionet UK will be instrumental in assisting persons with disabilities needing mobility aid and medical consumables throughout Fiji.
This was highlighted by Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Veena Bhatnagar at the handover of equipment from Physionet UK to the Spinal Injury Association of Fiji.
“The Fijian Government has made commitments at various levels to ensure the rights of persons living with disabilities are made real. Section 42 of the Fijian Constitution, is the first rights-based law that we have ever had in Fiji specifically for persons living with disabilities which gives Fijians with disabilities a number of rights including: reasonable access to all places and materials, devices pertaining to their disabilities, and to use sign language, braille or other appropriate means of communication,” Ms Bhatnagar said.
“Partnerships are very important to the Fijian Government as we have the responsibility and obligation to ensure that the best interest of these Fijians with disabilities is protected in every aspect of life; and we are very grateful to PhysioNet UK, Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation and the Australian High Commission for being such generous donors to Fijians living with disabilities.
“Let us continue to work in unison and dedication towards making the human and constitutional rights of all Fijians living with disabilities a reality.”
PhysioNet is the largest in kind donor of mobility aid and appliances to Fiji for the last 10 years. Items received included assorted mobility aid and appliances such as wheelchairs, commodes, crutches, walking aid and walking frames, books, toys and medical consumables which will be a great help to the recipients.
