New Lautoka Supermarket Employs 50
The new supermarket is not only boosted by sales and marketing but it also provided employment opportunities to close to 50 new staff.
The shop was officially opened by the Paradise Beverages sales and marketing manager Joe Rodan. Mr Rodan said this was a classic example of local companies investing to where it counts the most. He said P Meghji was paving the way on how other local businesses should be spending and their money.
“P Meghji is a classic example of when the economy is down, they have come in and invested a lot to drive the economy,” Mr Rodan said.
“Investing here is not only driving the economy but investing also providing employment to so many who need it right now,” he said. Mr Rodan added that local businesses should reconsider investing in overseas products and companies as this drives money out of the country and its economy. P Meghji director Romit Meghji said the company had planned to open the Lautoka Fresh Choice Supermarket after opening their Suva shop two years ago.
“COVID-19 is going to stay around for many years and this does not mean we stop investing,” Mr Meghji said. He said food business does not stop and people nowadays look for quality food items.
“We have good ranges of products for our customers to meet their expectations and needs.”
He also admitted that they were not immune to the effects of COVID-19.
“Our business dropped by almost 80 per cent due to our supply chain to the resorts and hotels but our company ventured into supplying lot of consumer items to all other major supermarkets around Fiji,” he said.
The group has two other supermarkets; one in Garden City, Suva and the other at Denarau, Nadi.
