The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has completed works on the Muaniweni and Namuamua Village road and bus services have resumed.

This was after concerns were raised by residents of Muaniweni Settlement and Namuamua village on the deteriorating conditions of their road for the past few weeks. FRA Acting chief executive officer Kamal Prasad said the Authority had completed works on the road and it was now fully operational. Mr Prasad added that bus services have also resumed for the villagers in the area. Muaniweni resident, Kathleen Ratu, said the road conditions had worsened due to heavy rain in the last two weeks.

“As a result of the bad road conditions in the past two weeks, the two buses that service the area were unable to complete their route forcing residents to walk some six kilometres to get to their home,” Ms Ratu said. “Some residents have chosen to remain with their families in Suva. Villagers accessing the road are doing so at their own risk.”

“Some villagers of Namuamua who lived further up had informed us that the bus got stuck in that muddy spot last week and had to be pulled out by a digger.

“The road can be very muddy and the bus cannot cross, it is a slope so if a bus or van with school children rolls from there it would fall off the cliff, it’s too dangerous.” She said they were grateful that the roads were fixed upon their request as they would have bus operations run as normal.
