Rental Association Revises Hiring Agreement
Mr Singh said the association’s legal counsel will be liaising with relevant stakeholders before a final copy is approved.
Arevised rental car agreement terms and conditions has been drafted by the Fiji Rental Car Association to cover areas of breaches between the rental car operator and hirer.
This revised agreement comes after rental car operators have been slapped with losses because of unfaithful hirers who either damage their vehicles or fail to pay as per arrangements within the rental hiring agreement.
Revised terms and conditions
Association vice president Shalit Kumar said the revised terms and conditions has been tabled and approved by the members and the legal counsel during their Annual General Meeting last month. Mr Singh said the association’s legal counsel will be liaising with relevant stakeholders before a final copy is approved.
“The final terms and conditions will be made available for members’ use in the coming months.
“The contents will be fair, legally viable and provide the cushion of support to make claims in the event there is a breach in the rental agreement.
“The agreement covers all areas of breaches and losses that the members will be protected against. This includes third party claims due to faults on the hirers’ part.
“A refundable bond collected prior to releasing the vehicle is another form of assurance that the vehicles will be well kept and returned within the agreed time without any damages or theft,” he said.
GPS installations
Aside from this, several rental car companies have installed Global
Positioning System (GPS) systems in their vehicles.
Mr Singh said this possess the ability for rental cars to notify operators of the speed at which the vehicle is travelling, its location as well as the ability to turn off its engine remotely.
