Welcome back, A-G!
Happy to read that our Minister for Economy and A-G, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, will arrive soon after having fully recovered from his medical procedures in Singapore, despite all the nonsense and false rumours levelled at him and his family.
He receives no special preference relevant to our Government’s announcement a month ago that any visitor to this country will have to foot their own quarantine costs for 14 days at any of the facilities around the country. And like any other Fijian citizen, the same law applies to him.
The couple also paid for their own stay of duration in Singapore including all their medical costs. Isn’t that transparency? Welcome back A-G!
Easter Simon Hazelman, Savusavu
As one of the most important days for the Christian community, Easter marks the resurrection of our Lord and saviour, Jesus Christ.
For many Christian Fijians, we celebrate Easter in many ways. News and social media saw some people dedicate their time worshiping the occasion, some gather together as immediate family to have a feast, some take vacations, some smack kava, some indulge in alcohol and merriment, and the list goes on.
As so-called Christians, it sure reveals how diverse and fragmented our beliefs are about Christianity. And it poses the question as to how serious we are as Christians and as a nation.
There is one thing for sure; there is a God, and God and his words are to be taken seriously. Sin is to be taken seriously as with holiness and genuine repentance. We must never be in such a lukewarm state like we currently are, because believe me, no blessings, no protection, and no favours will come our way. When we Christians behave badly, we are making Christianity unattractive to the onlooker and we are slowly and surely extinguishing that flame of hope.
Why have we as a nation, and why have our leaders forsaken the biblical Ten Commandments, for we will never be blessed with what God’s words forbid.
We have strayed from righteousness and we are paying the price. Let’s stop looking ahead or sideways or behind but start looking up for real guidance and definite blessings! Luke-warmish will never work!
COVID-19 vaccine Sukha Singh, Labasa
Wouldn’t it be nice if the World Health Organisation (WHO), or anybody else, could develop a vaccine similar to the COVID-19 vaccine for common cold and normal fevers?
You just take one or two jabs and never get knocked out for the rest of your life!
