also been received well by potential employers.

Fiji has been able to contain the spread of coronavirus, identifying cases at the border with no community transmission in over 300 days.

Fijians have had successful work stint in Australia. This new group to New Zealand will see more opportunities for Fijians. “The request has come to our ministry by the Australian Government representing employers from Australia. We are currently recruiting Fijians to prepare to leave for Australia in May.”

Mr Bala said: “Opportunities will be given to those who are unemployed and those who have lodged their applications with his ministry.”

In May, close to 200 Fijians will leave our shores.“Our Fijian workers who are currently there have branded Fiji very well and this is a direct result of the good name they have made for Fiji and we are ready to meet the demand.”

Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said: “This is something that we celebrate and shows the decisive leadership of our honourable PM, the hard work and an all of government approach and of course, the efforts of our frontliners.

“It also shows the commitment our people. It has not been easy and many have made sacrifices; our front-liners, our administrative support and importantly the people of Fiji.

“All health systems have been tested by one virus and ours have held its own amongst the best that have been COVID contained for as long as we have if any.

“We must remain true to the purpose of our COVID Containment measures including our vaccination strategy to ensure herd immunity that will allow us to open our borders and our many family members and friends in the large tourism sector will be able to return to their work.

The opening of our borders will also allow our many family and friends to travel freely and visit one another as we have a growing diaspora.”

And, more good news seems to be around the corner. There are talks of Fiji’s border reopening to Australia and Kiwi tourists from later this year.
