Boreholes Benefit 100s in Nadroga
Water problems will be a thing of the past for the community of Tavuto in Nadroga. This is after the Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Jone Usamate commissioned the settlement’s borehole project on Wednesday.
The project is an investment of $47,000 and brings an assurance to an improved, reliable and sustainable supply of the qualIty oF wAtEr to BEnEfit nInE households with a population of 66 people.
“When communities have ample water, they thrive - their health, their farming, their economy all can steadily improve when water is readily available,” Mr Usamate said.
“We cannot sustain life without it; we cannot sustain communities without it. The people of Tavuto will now be able to enjoy better life as water plays a crucial role in their daily lives; from drinking, bathing, washing, and cleaning. However, he added villagers should continue to use other reliable and safe water sources for example rainfall harvesting which should not be neglected and should be maintained to supplement groundwater. Mr Usamate also commissioned the borehole project at the Savusavu Public School in Momi, Nadroga that would benEfit fivE tEACHErs AnD tHEIr households, and also the 102 students of the school. The school was founded in 1939 and has been using a well since then.
The borehole is a Government investment of $49,000. “The students and teachers of Savusavu Public School will now be able to enjoy a better quality of life as water plays a critical role in their daily lives; from drinking, bathing, washing, and cleaning, and proper hygiene and sanitation,” he said.
