Basden Anglican College Awards Members of Staff
Staff members of Basden Anglican College in Newtown, Nasinu will be awarded for their hard work and dedication towards students and the school at the end of each school term. College principal Mohammed Saiyaz Khan said this was the first time the school was organising such an event.
At the first event held on Wednesday night, Mr Khan said teachers needed to be appreciated and acknowledged for their hard work. He said they had some categories which the staff needed to fulfill in order to be awarded and this was something they could look forward to at the end of each term.
He said teachers who successfully achieve a 100 per cent pass rate for students in Year 12 and Year 13 in their external exams are also awarded.
Mr Khan said some of their students don’t come from well-off families, so as teachers they try to do what they can to improve their performance in school.
“Most of the students that attend the school are from underprivileged homes or are not accepted by other schools.
“As a team, we are trying to provide everything we can for our students.
“We are already planning to visit homes and communities of our students and help them with what we can”.
Mr Khan said when teachers and students work together they would excel in their work. He acknowledged all their event sponsors.
Divisional education officer Central Ronald Krishna commended the principal for his innovative
idea.
He said he was surprised when he was invited to be chief guest as this kind of event was always held in term three.
He said Mr Khan believed in teamwork and through teamwork
the school could achieve a lot. “When teachers put in their efforts then the school will excel,”Mr Krishna said.
He added that students go through a lot of challenges, but teachers can make a difference in their lives.
