New Mosque more Than A House of Worship Says Koya
The new Masjid Hanifa mosque at Sonaisali, Nadi is more than a house of worship; those who initiated the building of this structure have built a home, a place of solace.
The Minister for Minister for Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport, Faiyaz Koya’s made the comment while opening the mosque last Friday.
“We gather today (last Friday) at a special place, and at a special time. We welcome Masjid Hanifa, a few days ahead of Ramadan, a time for fasting, deep reflection and contemplation,” Mr Koya said.
“Inshallah, we must come out of this month of Ramadan, with renewed strength and energy to grow in every aspect of our lives; spiritually, with improved personal relationships, better health and stronger professional lives,” he said.
Ramadan this year is from April 13 to May 12. “We must welcome the opportunity to humble ourselves, learn from others during this time, to celebrate our religious identity, also open our minds to the possibilities of living and co-existing harmoniously, irrespective of colour, religion or status.
“We, as Fijians, are fortunate to have equal rights to practice any religion. This shows how united we are, and how tolerant we are to live harmoniously.”
According to Mr Koya the Quran, advocates equality between all, only good deeds may raise the status of one human over another. Masjid Hanifa mirrors equality by having a salat room for women to also partake in activities.
Mr Koya was accompanied by the Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Rosy Akbar and Minister for Agriculture Mahendra Reddy at the opening ceremony.
