Goldbasin Mining Has Three Mineral Exploration Projects
VATUKOULA GOLD MINES EXPLAINS ITS INVOLVEMENT
Anew player has emerged from the mineral exploration sector.
Goldbasin Mining Fiji Pte Limited, a locally registered mining company operating out of Vatukoula, is prospecting for gold.
Its shareholders are Marvel Dragon of Hong Kong, and Emperor Goldmine Company Limited of Vatukoula, both of which invested a cumulative sum of $1 million in shares.
The company is working on three project sites whose special prospecting licences were initially awarded to Vatukoula Gold Mines.
“We transferred the three projects to Goldbasin,” Vatukoula Gold Mines general manager Hi Yuang told SunBiz this week.
“They are the only SPLs Vatukoula Gold Mines has.”
Of the three sites, two are located “near Vatukoula Gold Mines”, Mr Hi said.
Mr Hi is chairman of the Vatukoula Gold Mines Limited Fiji.
The third special prospecting licence relates to a site at Balevuto, in the interior of Ba, where Goldbasin Mining is prospecting for gold.
Mr Hi identified the three mineral exploration sites as:
■ SPL 1201
■ SPL 1344, and
■ SPL 1360.
Goldbasin Mining spokesman, Joni Dagoya, said he was awaiting approval from the company’s counterparts in Canada to release information requested by SunBiz.
Mr Hi said Goldbasin Mining was not a subsidiary of Vatukoula Gold Mines.
He said Goldbasin Mining held a joint venture with a Canadian counterpart over its Fiji mineral exploration projects.
Minister Mineral Resources, Jone Usamate, said he would have to make a more informed comment later.
Registrar of Companies
According to information obtained from the Registrar of Companies, Goldbasin Mining was registered in 2017, with its registered office and principal place of business listed as Emperor Hall, at Loloma Road, Vatukoula.
The company’s registered details were updated in November last year.
Goldbasin Mining’s registered office holders and directors were listed as Weijun Yue and Yi Huang, both of Chinese birth.
Mr Weijun’s registered address puts him in Tianjin, China, while Mr Yi’s registered address is listed as Green House, Loloma Street, Vatukoula.
Mr Hi
Mr Hi’s email address, from which he corresponds with SunBiz, registers as Yi Huang.
Mr Hi, according to Vatukoula Gold Mines records, has over 30 years of experience in the mining industry.
He joined the company in 2014, serving as chief engineer initially and general manager since 2019.
Mr Hi worked for INCO Ltd, Eldorado Gold Corporation, and mining engineering consulting firms including Golder Associates and AMEC.
Mr Hi obtained his PhD degree in Mining Engineering from Lulea University, Sweden, and is a registered professional engineer in Ontario, Canada.
He has a certificate as a mine manager of Fiji, and is a Canadian citizen.
