Paradise of Qamea for Salanieta Koro

- SHREYA KUMAR SUVA Feedback: shreya.kumar@fijisun.com.fj

Salanieta Koro has been described as relentless by those who know her. Currently a Master’s student in Literature, and a literature tutor at the University of the South Pacific, Ms Koro wears many hats.

She is the founder of Happy Mangrove Planting (HMP) project, an initiative which has garnered national interest over the past year.

With the aim to bring order to the ever changing climate, she has been actively planting mangroves along Nasese foreshore in Suva, and Tikaram Park in Lami with her group of volunteers.

If that wasn’t it, Ms Koro has also dipped her feet in the glamour world, being the Miss World Fiji 2014 finalist.

What are your hobbies?

Reading and analysing texts, having substantial conversations, hanging out with my companion cats, watching RuPaul’s Drag Race and spending time in natural environments.

How many places in Fiji have you been to?

Outside of Viti Levu, I’ve been to Levuka and Savusavu.

What is the one spot in Fiji you would take every visitor to, and why?

Nausori Highlands because it offers you a magnificent and surreal image of the relativity of your physical smallness compared to the vastness of the universe while giving you the opportunity to also feel the interconnectedness with everything around you.

What is your favourite spot for a pie or coffee and why?

I hardly drink coffee out but when I do I like Single Origins Coffee in Pratt Street, Suva because it’s owned by a young entrepreneur and they offer delicious plant based coffee and pastry options.

What is your favourite backyard spot, and why?

A beach backyard spot is beautiful because of the ocean view.

What is the one spot in Fiji on the top of your bucket list and why?

I’d like to visit Qamea because I hear that it’s a paradise.
