Lami Kava resumes operations
LamiKava has resumed factory operations, after meeting with guidelines outlined by the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport.
However, the company’s retail outlets in Lami and Raiwaqa remain closed.
Their operations do not meet the essential services criteria specified by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Commerce,
Trade, Tourism and Transport.
“We are operating with 50 per cent staff capacity for our production and factory,” managing director, Donny Yee, said in response to queries from SunBiz.
“With the closure of our retail outlets in Lami and Raiwaqa, we are currently directing our customers to our resellers like Kundan Singh supermarket and service stations, New World supermarket outlets, and a few Total service stations,” Mr Yee said.
“Also, a few yasayasa shops stock Lami Kava products.
“We are encouraging our staff to get vaccinated.
“Currently, 50 per cent of our factory staff have received their first dose, while the remaining are looking at getting their first dose later this week.”
Initially
Lami Kava was established 35 years ago, and continues to operate its factory in Lami’s industrial area.
The company was initially set up in 1982 by Peter Yee Snr to process kava.
From its initial floor space of 15m x 8m in the Lami Industrial area, the business grew from its Lami Kava Pounding Shop.
The company did not sell kava when it was first set up, Lami Kava said.
“Once the company started selling kava in the late 1980s the business was renamed to Lami Kava Limited.
