Outgoing LTA Chief: Why I Was Chosen

- SHALVEEN CHAND

Outgoing Land Transport Authority chief executive officer Samuel Simpson has called out personal attacks against him by parliamentarian Aseri Radrodro as a disguised attempt to belittle the Government.

Mr Simpson stated that his selection to lead the body was based on merit, capability, competence and ability.

In his response to Mr Radrodro in The Fiji Times, Mr Simpson said his health was his business and as the top executive of the LTA he had never faltered in his attendance.

“Mr Radrodro says that I am midway through my tenure. Think again, I have been in post for 30 months of a threeyear engagement,” he said.

“I have given the Authority my full-time efforts sometimes on 7 days a week to improve LTA. I have had one very brief vacation during this period in 2020.”

Mr Simpson has labelled Mr Radrodro’s action as a thinly disguised attack upon Government and Government Ministers using him as a weapon.

“Your highly personal attack upon me, my character, my remuneration, my record in office only serves to illustrate how bankrupt your comments are. It is not worthy of a parliamentary member of the opposition,” he goes on to say.

“I am very proud of the things that I have done whilst at LTA and list some of them for the benefit of Mr Radrodro.

“I am also very proud of the people I work with who are dedicated public servants with a strong customer focus to attack me in the way that he does he attacks every LTA employee.”

Mr Simpson pointed out that as the Shadow Minister for Transport, Mr Radrodro never reached out to him neither had he asked to visit LTA ever.

“Mr Radrodro I say to you, that is what good and effective opposition leaders do, they find out for themselves and then report back to Parliament and hold Minister’s to account in that forum,” he said.

“They deal in facts. You deal in snide innuendo and personal attacks.”
